Final Fantasy 14 draws on elements from a huge variety of games. How do you reconcile that?

The thing about Final Fantasy is that it's supposed to reinvent itself with every major release - new characters, new setting, new plot. Final Fantasy 14, though, draws on bits and pieces of all of these games and blends them together into a new scenario all of its own.

It adds an extra bit of challenge to the already painful task of writing for MMOs, which need to evolve constantly. What a nightmare. Here's how Square Enix tackles it:
