Wii U firmware update allows for Wii classics viewed on Game Pad

Nintendo has released a new firmware for the Wii U, which allows you to view your Wii Virtual Console titles on the Game Pad - although you'll still need a WiiMote to play.

Other new features include the ability to receive recommended software and demos via SpotPass; support for USB keyboards; an option to disable your Nintendo Network ID on non-Nintendo hardware; and Dolby Pro Logic II Surround Sound support for Wii titles.

A friend list icon has been added to the Wii U menu, and there have been several changes to system settings menus, Wii U chat and the Internet browser.

Finally, there have been various improvements to overall system stability and "other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience".

Full patch notes are available from Nintendo.

Thanks, Gematsu.
