What's Your Most Outlandish E3 2019 Prediction?

E3 is quickly approaching. In fact, this is our last weekend to relax before E3 kicks off in earnest on Saturday, June 8 with EA Play. Wish us luck!

Outlandish? That will always be a new PlayStation portable. The Vita saw itself quietly sunsetted, as the world had largely moved away from the portable in favor of Nintendo 3DS or the subsequent Nintendo Switch. Since then, some fans have wanted a Vita follow-up of some sort. I doubt it will ever happen, so that's probably going to remain my outlandish prediction for the next few years. Sony is done with portable consoles I think, but that won't stop people from believing that Vita means life.

I tend to err on the side of caution in predictions, simply because the last time I wished for something, we got Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5. I will say that my biggest hope, and what should be the easiest slam dunk at this point, is a Mass Effect trilogy collection. Up-res the games, keep the original gameplay (even though ME1 is a little clunky, there’s a charm to it), and revitalize ME3’s multiplayer servers. Put it on Switch, and you can take my money now.

I recently said on Twitter that, ever since the reveal of Mega Man X8 at E3 2004, I go into every E3 hoping we'll see a reveal for Mega Man X9. It's dumb. It's stupid. It's never going to happen for a multitude of reasons, including the fact game reveals have irrevocably changed since 2004. Capcom will never reveal Mega Man X9 at E3 when we live in a world of fan festivals, social media, and video showcases that are perfect for unveiling smaller stuff. Still, I hold on to that faint hope this will be the E3 that finally confirms X9. Everyone's got to have some kind of stupid, silly wish they cling to, right?

This year's Resident Evil 2 remake was so good that it's been making me think about what other PlayStation-era games would be ripe for a modern remake. My first thought was the Silent Hill series, naturally, but we all know how badly that went the last time Konami remastered it. I'd love a new Tony Hawk game, but like Eric said above, we all know what happened last time. (Still, Tony Hawk's Underground 3? Please? But make it good unlike THPS5?) Then, reflecting back on a wishlist for the PlayStation Classic I wrote last year, one game popped up as a perfect candidate: Bushido Blade.
The starkly minimal, clumsy fighter where you die in one stab would be a great fit for today. It's strange, it's barely a fighting game, and it has an atmosphere like no other. In the industry, we've seen developers move more and more away from obtrusive, ugly UI, so why not remake a fighting game that famously had no life bars whatsoever? I don't think we'll ever see the likes of it again, but with games like Mordhau and For Honor bringing grim hand-to-hand battles back in a big way recently, it might be the perfect time. So there, that's my outlandish, never-gonna-happen prediction for E3.
