What the hell is this Bethesda Game of Thrones page doing on Target's website?

Game of Thrones, Skyrim style? Really?

File this one in a cabinet absolutely chockers with salt, but there's a placeholder up on Target's website for something called "Bethesda: Game of Thrones".

What could this mean? Is it an error? Is someone on Target's online team pulling a prank? Should we expect a Bethesda game announce at the end of tonight's Game of Thrones episode? (Update: we did not get one.) Is this one of Bethesda's mysterious unannounced projects?

We're trying not to get excited because the evidence for Bethesda's game of Thrones is very slim indeed. The placeholder page, as spotted by Reddit users, is missing the box art and other details we normally see when Target posts listings ahead of a product announce, which certainly makes it look extra dodgy.

It's especially difficult to believe given that Bethesda turned down the Game of Thrones license in the past - but hey, things change.

You may remember rumours of a Bethesda sci-fi game called Starfield in the run up to E3 2017. That was a wash out, but it might be worth noting that the same rumourmonger also suggested Bethesda was working on a licensed fantasy game.

We've known for a while that Bethesda plans on making a sixth Elder Scrolls game as well as two others, and that these are big games like Fallout 4 and Skyrim. What we don't know is when any of these will see the light of day, and what other small projects Bethesda has in mind along the way. We are expecting Elder Scrolls 6 to take a long, long time, though.

I'm not sure how well Bethesda's signature open world style would marry with the character-driven narrative of Game of Thrones, but assuming this interesting prospect is in any way real, it's reasonably likely it would be set in a different historical era to that shown in the Game of Thrones era. That would give Bethesda a great deal of scope to fit the setting to a more freeform game.
