What Games From Your Backlog Do You Plan to Play This Summer?

COMMUNITY QUESTION | What game or games from your backlog do you plan on tackling in this dry summer of releases?

This article first appeared on USgamer, a partner publication of VG247. Some content, such as this article, has been migrated to VG247 for posterity after USgamer's closure - but it has not been edited or further vetted by the VG247 team.

It's summmmmmmertime! That means it's time for beaches, margaritas, going for nice walks in the park with iced coffee. Living in San Francisco, not much of that is actually possible because it's foggy most weeks of the year. Regardless, we can pretend and fantasize about summer... in video games.

For this week's community question, let us know what games from your backlog you plan on playing this summer, whether they're from 2018 or even decades past.

God, what isn't in my backlog at this point? God of War, Persona 5, Bayonetta, and Witcher 3 are all half-finished. I'm enjoying BattleTech. I just picked up Slay the Spire. But everything is kind of on hold as I try to grind my way through the final five levels of Super Robot Wars V. I sort of feel trapped by this dumb game, unable to move on to anything more meaningful until I finally finish it. But FIFA and Smash Bros. have been taking up a lot of time as well. It's a problem.

I suppose my main priority is to finally finish up Persona 5. It was my biggest priority for last year, but I'm still not done with it. This is unacceptable! It's time to knuckle down and knock it out before Red Dead Redemption and all the rest come out. Assuming God of War and FIFA don't end up getting in the way. Oh god, help.

Maybe I'll just play Football Manager instead.

There is no time for catch-up! We must move ever forward, onto the next game!

To answer the question, I'll probably be working on Red Dead Redemption on Xbox One X, since I never played the game the first time around. I also need to work on my characters for World of Warcraft with the Battle for Azeroth expansion right around the corner. Otherwise, E3 2018 made me a bit nostalgic for some older titles, so in my free time, I've been playing Hitman and Just Cause 3. Who knows what else is beyond that?

This question is making me cry. Why do you want to make me cry? Ugh. There's too much to even think about. Let's see: Dark Souls Remastered, Monster Hunter: World, Splatoon 2's excellent new DLC, The Switch port of Ys 8 (provided someone doesn't discover a new bug in NISA's localization that causes the system to blow up or something), God of War, Slay the Spire, Final Fantasy XV's DLC, Hollow Knight, THIS INTERVIEW IS OVER, GOODBYE. [Slams door]

I actually recently got a full-fledged gaming PC so this is the first Steam Summer Sale where I've actually benefited from. Just this week I picked up PUBG, Rainbow Six Siege, and Fallout 4. I also picked up Overwatch separately from Blizzard. So basically, no more single-player narrative games for me. This summer is all about raising my competitive online multiplayer ranks across various games.

I've picked up a lot of games recently that I've somehow missed out on. I'll probably finally play Hyper Light Drifter, which has been sitting in my library for some time. I want to try out Frostpunk, the most recent game from the developers of This War of Mine. (The name's bad, but I've heard its positioning with morality in the context of a management sim is really interesting.) There's also Dandara, which will probably be what I play first as I've been on a metroidvania kick lately. I've even been feeling that The Witcher 3 itch lately, so it might be time to dive back in and finally finish the Blood and Wine expansion too.

I'm still working through the first Mega Man Legacy Collection as well, which I imagine will still be my go-to game when I'm not playing things for work. (And with how dry July is looking to be, that'll leave me with a lot of Mega Man time.) It's my first time playing them, and boy they are hard, but I'm stubborn as hell and will beat all those dastardly bosses.
