"Watch this space," says Sony UK boss of Vita TV, new Vita model

Vita TV and the new, slimmer Vita 2000 model aren't on the cards for European release yet, but PlayStation UK managing director Fergal Gara hasn't ruled the possibility out, either.

Speaking to CVG, Gara said a UK launch of the new Vita 2000 model is dependent on international success.

"[There's] no plan that we're prepared to announce today. Not everything is suitable for every market, but what I will say is, watch this space, let's get it out in Japan, see how successful it is, and take it from there," he said.

Asked about Vita TV, Gara said it's the "same situation, really".

"Japan is a great place to launch that kind of device. PS Vita is strongest in Japan, and that brand has the most traction in Japan. Also, streaming media services are far more established in Japan than other territories, so it made a lot of sense to launch it there," he said.

"But we are delighted by the interest that's been shown by western media and the public, particularly in the UK."

SCE worldwide studios head Shuhei Yoshida also asked fans to "stay tuned" on the possibility of western launch for the Vita TV, and SCE engineering and production division boss Masayasu Ito said western interest has been stronger than Sony anticipated.
