Dark Souls isn’t an easy game by any stretch of the imagination; it’s quite the contrary if anything, requiring you to give it your best in order to beat it. However, that’s if you’re a normal gamer like one of us and don’t go by the name bearzly.
This "hardcore" Dark Souls fan has not only beaten the game on its hardest difficulty level but has also managed to find new and strange ways to best it which includes using Rock Band’s drums and guitar, among others.
In his quest to continue flogging the game in the most mind-blowing ways possible, he has decided to make a run without using a controller - or even his hands, for that matter. Yeah, you heard that right.
“After finishing Dark Souls with a bunch of Rock Band controllers,” bearzly wrote on reddit, “it was about time to drop the physical controllers and play the game with zero hands and a microphone.
"This run was suggested to me many times and I never knew if it would be possible, but after someone showed me a program that did the hard work of voice recognition for me I had to give it a shot.”
This insane was accomplished using VoiceAttack, an app that translates voice commands into keyboard interactions, allowing bearzly to command his character to performing certain actions such as “heavy attack” or using an “estus flask”.
If this isn’t weird or difficult enough, bearzly also had to face roughly 1.5 seconds of lag between giving the command and having it actually register inside the game world. This forced him to plan his moves well in advance.
Although most of us would not even imagine attempting such a thing let alone actually managing to finish the game doing it, this guy actually managed to beat the game after 30 hours. He died a total of 485 times before finally seeing the end credits roll. Nerves of steel, anyone?
He admitted this was the most difficult run even by his standards - “By far the hardest run I have completed.”
But being the guy that he is, he feels there might be harder ways to beat the game still - “I doubt I will try anything more insane than this,” he said, “but I’m open to suggestions.”
You can watch bearzly accomplish this feat of daring in the video below.
