Watch first gameplay from Egress, the battle royale RPG with Souls-like combat

The concept of Egress always sounded interesting, and today we get to see the game in action.

Announced earlier this year, Egress is a multiplayer battle royale RPG with combat very much reminiscent of Souls games.

The game is set in a world inspired by Victorian era designs, and Lovecraftian lore, which makes it a resemble another From Software game: Bloodborne. In today's gameplay trailer, we get a good look at how all of these inspiration are going to work.

Matches seem to support 22 players, and instead of an ever-encroaching circle, the water rises across the city, pushing players upwards. It's a pretty smart translation of the safe zone mechanic from so many battle royale games.

You can judge it for yourself below, and if you like what you see, head to the official site to register for an upcoming beta test.

Egress is due out sometime this year on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
