VR isn't fun, says Nintendo boss

Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime doesn't think virtual reality is good to go just yet.

Nintendo won't be jumping on board VR as Sony and Microsoft have done, apparently.

"What we believe is that, in order for this technology to move forward, you need to make it fun and you need to make it social," the executive told Polygon.

"I haven't walked the floor, so I can't say in terms of what's on the floor today, but at least based on what I've seen to date, it's not fun, and it's not social. It's just tech."

Well, I guess we know what the NX isn't.

Nintendo has an interesting relationship with emerging gaming technologies. It pioneered second screen gaming with the DS, ultimately leading up to the Wii U - but the movement hasn't taken off as the company hoped. It kicked off the motion gaming craze, which has since mostly died a fiery death. And, amusingly, it debuted one of the first ever VR headset with the 1995 Virtual Boy. Ah ha.

Fils-Aime also said Nintendo has been "experimenting" with virtual reality for a "long, long time", although it's not clear if he means recently or back in the 90's.
