Vietnam's Emobi Games to release FPS called 7554 based on First Indochina War

Vietnam's Emobi Games is working on FPS called 7554 based on the eight-year First Indochina War. The title, represents May 7, 1954 which was the day the Battle of Dien Bien Phu took place between the French Union's French Far East Expeditionary Corps and Viet Minh communist revolutionaries.

In the game, players will take on the role of a Viet Minh communist revolutionary.

"We wanted to create a game worthy of the current generation," studio director Huy Nguyen Tuan told Kotaku. "At this time, no one in our country has created a current generation title. It was a little bit daunting and also very exciting to be breaking new ground. And when we decide to do it, we choose context that we are proud of. We set out to create a game that pays homage to those who stood up and protected our country. We wanted to a game about one of our greatest battles, Die Bien Phu."

Tuan said the studio plans to develop a variety of environments for the game, which will provide backdrops for different gameplay features and missions.

"As a story teller, we picked parts that fit within the timeline and helped tell a story," he explained. "As a developer, we picked parts we thought that we would like to play."

Tuan also doesn't think the game will be unpopular with western audiences, as "Normandy and D-Day are not familiar battles with Vietnamese people" yet they "really love to play Call of Duty."

"I don't think that is problem," he said. "It's a good game that is fun and challenging to play. We believe that gamers are accepting of other races, religions and beliefs that are not their own. We set out to make a game that gamers will enjoy playing."

7554 is slated for release on PC in February 2012 and will cost $12 for the single-player portion.
