Platinum Games' E3 2015 reveal could well be Vanquish 2

Cult favourite Platinum Games shooter Vanquish may be getting a sequel.

Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101 developer Platinum Games will have a new, unannounced game to show at E3 2015.

What that game might be, we don't know - but maybe this tweet from the studio is a hint?

That's a screenshot from Vanquish, a 2010 third-person shooter with a sliding mechanic called "boosting".

Vanquish was published as part of Sega and Platinum's four game deal and like so many excellent Sega-published games of that era it made almost no impact on the charts.

This was quite the tragedy, as fans will tell you Vanquish was no generic shooter, but a tense, fast-paced and incredibly rewarding experience for those with the grit to master it.

Seeing the property get another chance to garner the respect its tightly-designed mechanics deserve would be wonderful. Cross your fingers we see Vanquish 2 at one of the E3 2015 presentations.

Unfortunately, if you peruse Platinum's Twitter feed you'll see it tends to post screens from right across its catalogue fairly regularly, so we probably can't read too much into this.
