HTC and Valve made a "big technological breakthrough" recently with Vive VR headset, which is the reason for its delay.

HTC and Valve's VR headset Vive, recently went from possibly being one of the early VR headsets to be available, to another 2016 release. According to HTC CEO Cher Wang, that is due to a "very, very big technological breakthrough."

According to Wang, this change was big enough for plans to be clanged. "We shouldn't make our users swap their systems later just so we could meet the December shipping date," Wang told developers at the Vive Unbound event in Beijing, China, as reported by Engadget.

Wang did not reveal exactly what this breakthrough is, but confirmed that it will be shown at CES 2016 in January.
