Watch this unsettling trailer for Dap, a weird horror game

Australian indie studio Melting Parrot has released a striking new trailer for its horror debut Dap; a peculiar game that sees you guide vulnerable creatures through a waking nightmare.

Daps are vulnerable, odd little creatures that inhabit a hostile world in which nearly everything is trying to kill them. In Dap, you start off as a single eponymous dap, quickly learning that you need to navigate through the creepy, imposing undergrowth to find other daps. There's strength in numbers, after all.

Similarly to Oddworld's Mudokons, you can instruct other daps that join your swarm to wait and follow, and you'll need to think carefully about how you command them if you want to get through the game's sadistic and terrifying world.

Take a look at the trailer below.

"There’s twisted monsters to fight, ancient secrets to unveil, complex puzzles to solve – and a sinister infection that can twist the lovable Daps into something alien and terrifying," says a press release for the game.

The trailer shows off some of the intriguing title's responsive and fast-paced twin-stick combat, and shines some light on the survival and crafting mechanics, too. The developers are trying to inspire 'wonder and terror' in equal measure – and that shows in the trailer.

Melting Parrot is made up of Iris and Paul Anstey, a Melbourne-based couple with a love for the weird and wonderful, and Dap is their debut game. It's set to launch in Q3 2021 on PC.
