UBM Tech to no longer publish Game Developer magazine

UBM Tech will no longer publish its Game Developer magazine and the July 2013 issue will be the last to circulate after a 19-year run.

.

According to the company, digital issues will also cease, resulting editorial lay-offs.

"We've made the decision to shift away from print as part of a wider strategy change in our parent company UBM Tech, which is simultaneously shifting other print publications either to digital only or to website-specific content, orienting them to help support our growing community-centric events such as Game Developers Conference," read a statement on Gamasutra.

"However, we will conduct Game Developer's major research (such as the Salary Survey) as part of Gamasutra's remit going forwards, as well as continuing to print historical and newly sourced game postmortems on Gamasutra."

Content from the magazine will "gradually transition its complete legacy content," onto Game Developer on Gamasutra for free.

The layoffs at UBM appear to go beyond Game Developer magazine, with UBM-owned Gamasutra news editor Frank Cifaldi writing on Twitter, " I didn't work for Game Developer, but I got hit by the same restructuring, so I'm no longer at Gamasutra."

Those who are currently a paid subscriber will be contacted with an option for a refund of the remainder of their subscription or a substitution with an alternative product.
