Apex Legends and Twitch team up for a competitive event with a $200k prize pool

DrDisrespect is one of 48 streamers taking part in Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge event next week.

Respawn Entertainment and Twitch are partnering up for a two-part competition that will see popular streamers compete for a $200,000 prize pool.

Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge was announced this week, and is set to take place on February 12 and February 19.

16 three-player squads will compete in each event, with streamers from North America and EMEA representing their territories.

The event seems designed to showcase the roster and features of the game, and will no doubt help to carry on the momentum that its gained so far.

"Each squad will compete to earn the most points, with 5 points awarded for each match victory and 1 point awarded for each kill.

"To win, streamer squads have to show they’ve mastered the unique abilities of the game’s roster of Legends, plus they’ll have to make the most of Apex Legend’s new additions to the Battle Royale genre, like Smart Comms for improved call-outs and Respawn Beacons for defying death."

DrDisrespect will be joined by Sacriel, TSM_Myth, DisguisedToast, RealKraftyy, and shroud.

Apex Legends released on Monday, and is holding its own on Twitch. The game is still holding the top spot on the streaming platform, with 125k viewers right now to Fortnite's 34.6k.

It reached 200k viewers yesterday - triple the amount of viewers as Fortnite - and had over 2.5 million players in the first 24 hours post-launch.

According to dataminers, the game could be getting a ranked mode, but there's no official word on that just yet.
