Twitch Plays Pokémon attracts 75K concurrent users, 300K views

Twitch Plays Pokémon, a livestreamed playthrough of Pokémon Red/Blue in which viewer chat commands control the action, has attracted tremendous attention.

In a Twitch blog update, the video service said concurrent users have peaked at over 75,000.

Meanwhile, the total number of unique viewers - let alone total view sessions - is "quadruple that amount", or at least 300,000.

"Possibly the greatest byproduct of this experiment is that this could be the biggest 'WE' moment in the history of gaming. Thousands of people working in chaotic unison – some not so much, you 'START' trolls know who you are – driving a single protagonist through a game. We’ll definitely have to get Guinness on the phone," Twitch wrote.

Given the total chaos of commands being entered, it's amazing any progress has been made at all - but it has. You can follow along via a Subreddit, a Twitter account, and even this helpful Google Doc chronicle.
