Twitch is the top streaming site in the world - report

Twitch attracts more viewers than sport, news and general streaming channels, according to a new report.

twitch

According to Qwilt's analytics, Twitch commands over 43% of the total livestream audience in the world. In the US, WWE is in second place, just ahead of Ustream, with ESPN, CNN and Skynews further down the pack. Worldwide, Twitch is in the top five entertainment sides in many countries.

The firm said gaming streams attracted 71 million views in 2014. On Twitch specifically, 58% of users spend more than 20 hours per week viewing streams, at an average of 106 minutes per day.

Twitch itself claimed 45 million unique viewers per month in 2013 and is the most popular gaming site in terms of traffic according to Comscore.

It's a pretty amazing set of statistics for a site devoted to a single aspect of a hobby; click through the link above for some technical discussion of why Twitch has been so successful.
