Twitch had over 45 million unique viewers in 2013, compared to 3.2 million in June 2011

Twitch has released a brand retrospective in the form of a digital flipbook which contains various metrics pertaining to 2013.

According to the numbers crunched by the streaming service, over 45 million unique viewers watched content through Twitch, compared to 3.2 million when the service launched in 2011.

Twitch has over 900,000 unique broadcasters per month, 12 billion minutes are watched on monthly basis which broken down amount to 106 minutes watched per person per day.

On December 11, 2013 - a month after the PS4 launched - 125,000 PS4 owners had signed into Twitch, making up 10% of the broadcaster base. This has since grown to 20% as of January 3, according to Twitch.

“When video game historians look back on gaming a decade from now, 2013 will be the year they cite as the tipping point of streaming,” said Matthew DiPietro, VP of marketing. “Every major event, publisher, developer, and media outlet in the gaming industry had a presence on Twitch, and streaming became an ever-present piece of the gaming experience.

"And it’s only going to get bigger.”

Looking over the numbers, it looks as though Twitch is also taking a cut of television viewing, as 68% of its users stated they have skipped out on watching TV to view gaming streams.
