True Crime to benefit from GTA stayaway this year

True Crime's reboot is looking "especially strong," Activision Blizzard CEO Mike Griffith said in the company's full-year earnings call last night, and will be rewarded by a lack of competition in the genre later this year.

"This is a big open world action games that looks to be especially strong and should benefit as this year's competitive window in the genre is wide open," said the exec, obviously referencing Rockstar's GTA.

He added: "The game blends intense Hollywood style driving with martial arts combat and shoot outs deliver an Asian cinema inspired action thriller."

The title's based in China. Canadian developer United Front - the same outfit behind ModNation Racers - is doing the work.

True Crime features an undercover cop against the Triads. For those that may not remember, True Crime: Streets of L.A. was originally developed by Luxoflux, and released in 2003.

A sequel, True Crime: New York City, released in 2005, again by Luxoflux.

No date was put on it last night, other than the "back half of the year".
