Titanfall server updates won't interrupt gameplay

Titanfall server-side updates can be rolled even in the middle of a match, without interrupting play.

In a Respawn forum discussion about how integrating Xbox Cloud Service has impacted the multiplayer shooter, programmer Jon Shiring said updating Titanfall is pretty much seamless as a result.

"During our small Closed Alpha, we rolled out three new server builds and completely moved players from one build to the next without interrupting gameplay. Players never noticed a difference (other than some bugs went away)," he claimed.

"We will definitely be rolling out new server builds to fix issues that we find. Not every issue can be patched entirely on the server, and so some fixes will require a client patch. But new server builds are definitely something we will be doing."

In another forum discussion, Respawn revealed that there will be no local dedicated servers for Australian players - despite the whole point of Xbox console exclusivity apparently being Microsoft's ability to provide cloud servers. Our new EIC Matt is quite understandably asking questions about EA and Microsoft's Titanfall arrangement.

Titanfall is coming to PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in March; the Xbox 360 version was developed by Bluepoint. A beta is rumoured for February, with firm details expected soon.
