Titanfall best-selling title on 7-month-old Xbox One

Without providing any new numbers, EA has told Game Informer that Titanfall is the best selling Xbox One game ever.

During the firm's last call to investors in May, EA cited NPD figures for the Respawn shooter which equated to 925,000 units. Granted the figure didn't take into account digital Xbox One sales, so the figure is obviously higher.

"Titanfall has been incredibly strong on Xbox One," according to COO Peter Moore. "Sales are always going to be inhibited and governed by the install base, but it is attaching incredibly well.

"Titanfall is the best selling title on Xbox One lifetime-to-date."

PC sales through Origin and the Xbox 360 version weren't mentioned, nor were the figures part of the tally noted last month. The latter was said to be "off to a great start," but we're talking about Xbox One so we'll just concentrate on that platform.

Titanfall for Xbox One was the top-seller in the US during March and April, per NPD, and with May's figures set to be released soon, we're almost ready to bet the farm the shooter will once again top the charts.

925,000 units is a great figure for a new, untested IP with an exclusivity clause. Considering the Respawn title only launched on Xbox One March 11, taking the outdated numbers into consideration, Titanfall has sold 308,333 units a month on XO since launch.

Yes, those aren't Call of Gazillion Billion Duty numbers, but it's not fair to compare a new IP with a proven one with such a vast, organic fanbase. Granted, some may scoff at Moore calling Titanfall the "best selling title" on the console to-date due to the console only just nearing the 7-month mark, but it has sold enough to justify talk of a sequel.

Sequel development always hinges on numbers, and Titanfall has to have done more than "well" to warrant one: especially a multiplatform one.

NPD reports are published the second Thursday of every month, which means that tomorrow, we can expect more sales figures for the title. While NPD doesn't release unit sales to the public, one or more clients end up spilling the numbers at some point.

Still, it would be nice to know how many units total the game has sold on all formats. Surely it's over 1.25 million, and that is a number Respawn and EA should be proud enough of to be screaming it from atop a Titan's back.
