TimeGate and Paramount reach settlement regarding Section 8
TimeGate Studios announced today that it has reached a settlement with Paramount Digital Entertainment and Paramount Pictures regarding a trademark infringement dispute over Section 8.
The lawsuit alleged that Paramount’s use of Section 8 as the name of its upcoming interactive web series was a trademark infringement based on TimeGate's rights in the name.
Paramount has agreed not to use the name Section 8, and because of this TimeGate has agreed to dismiss the lawsuit.
Section 8 is a TimeGate FPS, and the company claimed it had set-up meetings regarding “potential business ventures” with Paramount which were canceled without explanation or follow-up.
Three days after canceling the meeting, Paramount announced plans to release an interactive web series called Section 8 with a foreign company.
Press release through the jump.

regarding a trademark infringement dispute over “Section 8.”

“Section 8” as the name of its upcoming interactive web series amounted to trademark

Upon receipt of confirmation from Paramount that it would not use the name “Section 8” in
conjunction with its interactive web series, TimeGate agreed to dismiss the lawsuit without

About Section 8TM
Section 8 is an intense sci-fi first-person shooter that gives players unprecedented strategic
control over the battlefield, employing tactical assets and on-demand vehicle deliveries to
dynamically alter the flow of combat. Set at the crossroads of a growing insurrection among its
colonies, Earth dispatches the elite 8th Armored Infantry to turn the tide. Utilizing advanced
powered armor suits, these brave volunteers are the only ones crazy enough to smash through
enemy defenses and drop directly into the battlefield from 15,000 feet, earning them the
nickname "Section 8." The nickname refers to a discharge from an old United States military
regulation for reason of being mentally unfit for service. The near-suicidal missions this division
volunteers for brands them as insane by all other military units. Developed by TimeGate Studios,
Section 8 is published worldwide by Southpeak Games and scheduled for release in late 2009 for
the PC as well as next-gen console platforms. For more information, visit the Section 8 official
