THQ lives? Nordic Games buys the name and plans to publish under it

THQ may not be dead after all. After buying several of the company's IP at auction last year, Nordic Games has now acquired the THQ name and plans to publish new titles under it.

It follows this incredible photo gallery of what's left of THQ's old headquarters, taken after a new company moved into the building.

Speaking with Polygon, Nordic Games' general manager Klemens Kruezer confirmed that it closed a deal for use of the THQ name. It allows the firm to publish new games under the title, potentially starting with - the site says - its upcoming MX vs ATV game.

Kreuzer told Polygon, "It was kind of surprise to some industry veterans and players that we were the winner of the auction of the THQ titles. The challenging fact is nobody has ever heard about Nordic Games before [the THQ auction]. There were so many articles with the headlines ‘Who the f**k is Nordic Games?’ We said, okay they were right.

"We have seen an uplift in the name of Nordic Games, and what we have also done is we have made a second deal with THQ where we bought the THQ trademark."

He added that fan expectation surrounding former THQ properties like Darksiders remains high and suggested that it sometimes overshadows what Nordic Games is producing away from its auction-bought IP.

"This is where we need some more patience from the fans," he stressed, "because we want to be able to do it right. The owner of Nordic Games has given [interviews] where he has said that he doesn’t want to make a shitty sequel."

Kreuzer added that Nordic Games will announce some new projects at gamescom this August.

So there you have it folks, THQ isn't all that dead any more. Well, at least in name. What do you think?
