The Surge 2 has Soulsborne-style player messages - watch new gameplay

Deck13 has released a meaty new gameplay look at The Surge 2.

Today's walkthrough is narrated by the studio's head of design Adam Hetenyi, who gives us a tour of one of the new environments in The Surge 2. Unlike the original game, the sequel expands into the city outside the facility, as well as some of the parks.

The Surge 2 also brings a couple of new, interesting features. The first one shown in the footage is the ability to leave notes for other players. These asynchronous multiplayer messages should be familiar to anyone who played FromSoftware's games. These messages can be spray painted on the walls to warn or alert others about enemies or loot.

Another big new addition is directional blocking, which lets you mitigate damage from enemy attacks if you read the angle correctly. The mechanic requires timing. In fact, getting the timing right will earn you a parry, which creates an opening for a followup attack.
