The Secret World lead designer let go in Funcom lay-offs

The Secret World's lead designer was one of the staffers laid off during Funcom's slash and burn last month.

Massively noticed Martin Bruusgaard's updated Twitter bio ("ex-lead designer - The Secret World, Funcom") and conversation with followers alerting them to his departure from the Norwegian developer.

"Unfortunately, I'm not with Funcom anymore," he said.

"Got put on forced leave along with most of our Oslo Office, a week ago."

Funcom is said to have laid off about half of its total staff, but Bruusgaard said the damage was concentrated on some offices over others.

"I think that 50% was an overall Funcom percentage. The Oslo office got hit much much harder. It's a very expensive office. Cheaper to hire someone abroad."

Bruusgaard's not making a run for international climes in order to stay in gaming; he's secured "a grown up-job, for now" in IT in Oslo.

The Secret World has received both rave reviews and serious critique; it shifted just 200,000 units.
