The Pokémon Company calls out "scam" counterfeit games

Don't clone Pokémon games and try to sell them. The Pokémon Company is not amused.

Develop asked The Pokémon Company what it thought about rip-off versions of its games, two of which - Pokémon Yellow and Pokémon Pocket Edition - were removed from the App Store after making thousands of sales each this week.

Its answer - unsurprisingly - boils down to "not happy".

"We continue to combat the unauthorised release of games, applications and merchandise that trick our fans into purchasing something that does not meet our quality standards,” a representative said in a statement.

"Fans who encounter questionable products should report to us immediately so we can keep other fans from falling victim to these scams."

No core Pokémon game has ever been released on a non-Nintendo format, although a short-lived mobile phone spin off was available in Japan.
