The PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds patch that makes the blue zone more lethal is out now

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds latest patch, which hit test servers earlier this week, is now available for everyone else.

When the patch first became available on test servers on Monday, Battlegrounds developer Bluehole said that making the blue zone deadlier was born from a desire to force players to focus more on action inside the play zone rather than outside.

Bluehole has since edited the patch notes to clarify how the change works. In short, you take more damage over time the farther away you are from the play zone. This does not apply to the first play zone, since it would be unfair to players on the other side of the island who have to run all the way in.

The update hit Steam earlier this morning, coming in at 2GB. See all the patch notes below:

Gameplay

  • Blue zone DOT (Damage over Time) increases when characters are farther away from the play zone
  • This principle does not apply to the first blue zone

Bug fix

  • Resolved a bug where bullets would sometimes ignore armour

This is the final live patch PUBG is getting before the release of version 1.0 later this year. Until then, expect more patches to hit test servers, such as an upcoming one in early November that'll be our first look at vaulting and climbing animations.
