The opening scenes of Dragon Age: Inquisition were rewritten seven times

The prologue of Dragon Age: Inquisition wasn't always the way most of us got to see it in the final game.

Dragon Age: Inquisition's creative director Mike Laidlaw, senior writer David Gaider, and actor Freddie Prinze Jr. talked about storytelling in the game and divulged some details about how the prologue was rewritten several times.

"That scene is one that we re-worked probably seven times over the course of the game," said Mike Laidlaw about the scene in which the player first encounters Chancellor Rockerick.

"It needed to setup that initial opposition… we needed the sense that people weren't willing to step up and solve the problem… I remember one of my clearer pieces of direction that I said to David [Gaider] and his team was that we basically needed that guy that shuts down the Ghostbusters containment unit," he added.

According to Laidlaw, earlier versions of the scene had a more aggressive Cassandra and Roderick wasn't even there.

The information comes from a lecture held at the NYU Game Center. It was live-streamed, and you can watch the archive on Twitch. Be quick though, as archives don't last as long as they used to.
