The No Man's Sky review embargo has dropped, but nobody's saying anything yet [UPDATE]

No Man's Sky reviews are, uh, not rolling in.

The No Man's Sky review embargo just dropped, but we're unable to do our usual review round up for you. There aren't really any reviews yet.

[Update: a few No Man's Sky reviews in progress have popped up.]

Why? Well. You will have noticed that YouTubers have gone live with video (Arekkz has posted the first 50 minutes of No Man's Sky, for example), but press and influencers have only had access to code for a few days - and even then, it wasn't finished.

Although No Man's Sky leaked two weeks in advance, the version that's been in the wild wasn't the intended launch day experience. It wasn't until No Man's Sky day one update 1.03 dropped on Monday that players go to see the real game, as opposed to the months-old certification build (Vlambeer's Rami Ismail has written a great blog post on this topic if you're interested).

As such, reviewers have only had a very short time to check out what promises to be a staggeringly large game, and we're not expecting too many complete reviews to pop up today. (If you see any, feel free to do our jobs for us and share them in the comments.) Look for more detailed coverage later in the week, maybe - although No Man's Sky will be out by then, of course.

Sites like Eurogamer, Destructoid and PC Gamer have published articles explaining that they won't have reviews ready for embargo. There's nothing to be found on our usual go-tos for reviews - outlets like IGN, Gamespot and Kotaku, among many others.

Just another opportunity to think about how reviews fit into the modern world of video games, where games-as-service and day one patches complicate matters. Let's have one of those roaring, endless arguments about hype and pre-orders, shall we?
