The Last of Us movie will be "pretty faithful" to the game

The Last of Us will bring many of the same elements to the big screen as the small one, according to writer Neil Druckmann.

Although The Last of Us will have to be adapted in various ways to make the transition from lengthy interactive adventure to cinema-friendly story arc, Druckmann is hoping to keep the soul of Naughty Dog's classic.

"[It's] pretty faithful to the game," he told GameInformer, as spotted and transcribed by Gamespot.

"There are some big changes, but the tone and what the story's trying to say is pretty faithful to the game."

That sounds a little more hopeful than Druckmann's last comment; in August 2014, he said the movie's story would be "quite different" to the game's.

Druckmann, who directed The Last of Us and is co-directing Uncharted 4, is currently working on a second draft of the upcoming film adaptation's script.

He said the writing process is coming along "really well", and that a group of actors had already completed a read through of the first draft.

The Screen Gems project is being produced by Sam Raimi but other talent is still to be confirmed. Maisie Williams has been suggested for Ellie and seems quite keen.
