The IKEA VR Experience hits Steam and is listed as a survival horror

What makes IKEA so terrifying? Are you one of the brave few that can survive its aisles?

The IKEA VR experience hits Steam and is listed as a survival horror

The stench of meatballs assaults your nostrils. You've been searching for a coffee table for a full hour now and your enthusiasm has waned, giving way to bleak despair. You're going to die here.

Or not, as it turns out.

Unless there's something innately frightening about surviving a trip to IKEA - and some may argue that yes, yes there is - we can't figure out why the IKEA VR Experience has been categorised on Steam as a survival horror. It's also been tagged "Illuminati", so make of that what you will.

"Explore and interact with an IKEA Kitchen in Virtual Reality!", the description begins, before taking a darker turn, "Walk around freely, open drawers and put your vegetable peelings in the waste sorting station."

It quickly escalates to the very brink of primal dread, stating that "You can even enjoy the visual impact of different material finishes and experience things from a child’s point of view."

Joking aside, is this mistake? Is there a sinister secret waiting to be discovered in one of the drawers? Are they just playing silly buggers? Who knows. While we mull over the possibilities, here's a video of someone playing with VR meatballs.

The IKEA VR Experience is available to download now on Steam.
