The Forest shows SFX team's work translates well to video games

Check out The Forest, a new first-person horror title from a team of former Hollywood special effect artists, which is expected to launch with Oculus Rift support.

Eurogamer reports developer SKS Games is a Vancouver studio with only one other title to its name - iPad effort End Night - but a list of SFX credits including Tron Legacy and 300.

The Forest has players scavenging for survival after a plane crash, complete with day-night cycle and the need to keep warm, in the face of something odd moving in the trees. It sounds a bit like Klei's Don't Starve, only 3D and horrifying.

Players can choose to use stealth or try to batter foes, and enemies have an advanced AI with "beliefs, families and morals". Huh.

The Forest is currently battling its way through the fracas that is Steam Greenlight. It's due on PC later this year.
