The Endless Forest in danger of shutdown, appeals to backers for aid

Unusual MMO experience The Endless Forest has lost its museum backing and is in danger of closing down for good.

The Endless Forest is a strange online experience in which players take on the form of deer-like creatures; it's equal parts mental and beautiful. It was originally commissioned by the Musée d’Art moderne Grand-Duc Jean in Luxembourg in 2003, and has been online in its final form for seven years, attracting a dedicated community.

The museum has decided to cease support for the free MMO, leaving Belgian developer Tale of Tales to shoulder the €165 per month the server costs. Although it seems like a small amount, it's more than the tiny independent team can cough up for a game which brings in no income after costs.

Although it has largely let the project lapse in recent years, Tale of Tales is appealing to players to sign up for a small voluntary monthly donation - perhaps as little as €1 - in order to keep The Endless Forest blooming.

Go forth and wander through The Endless Forest to see if you think it's worth a little of your cash.

Tale of Tales other works include The Graveyard, The Path and Salom.
