The Elder Scrolls Online's M rating not ideal, but won't be challenged - Zenimax

The Elder Scrolls Online has been awarded an M or Mature rating by the ESRB - unusually high for an MMORPG, but Zenimax Online won't compromise on content.

The rating has not yet appeared on the ESRB's website, so we don't know what content pushed the MMORPG out of the T or Teen rating enjoyed by rivals like World of Warcraft and StarWars: The Old Republic.

Instead, the rating was revealed on The Elder Scrolls Online Facebook page.

"While we may disagree with the ESRB’s determination, we do not plan to challenge the rating, and we are unwilling to change the game’s content to achieve a different rating. The game we have created is the one we want our fans to be able to play," Zenimax Online said.

The rating may please series fans, as single-player entries Oblivion and Skyrim each earned an M rating, suggesting the MMO shares a similar tone.

The Elder Scrolls Online is coming to Mac and PC in April, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox one launches to follow.
