The Division reviewers won't get early access

The Division reviews won't be available before or on launch day. Well, not any you should put much faith in.

The Division reviews will not be embargoed, Ubisoft has announced - because it's not supplying review code to critics.

Instead, press and influencers will be jumping in at the same time as everyone else when The Division servers go live next week.

"Since it’s impossible for us to populate the servers in a way that would adequately replicate playing The Division on launch day, reviewers will start playing the game along with everyone else," Ubisoft said in a statement on the UbiBlog.

"We anticipate there may be some impressions posted online within the first few days of launch that were based on experiences with The Division Beta, and we look forward to seeing streams, videos, and opinions that provide accounts of final, in-game conditions."

That last bit is basically saying "don't trust anything you read in the first 24 hours", innit.

This isn't the first time Ubisoft has elected not to provide early access to an online game, taking a similar approach with The Crew. Activision and Bungie did much the same thing with Destiny, too.

There's plenty of room for discussion here, isn't there? It's not so different from how MMORPGs are handled, but it raises all sorts of questions about reviews and pre-orders and launch day server concerns. What do you think of this trend?

The Division launches next week for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
