The Division, Far Cry: Primal were best-selling games in the US during March

Both help Ubisoft become biggest publisher for first quarter of 2016.

Ubisoft was the most successful publisher in the first quarter of 2016 thanks to stellar sales of The Division and Far Cry: Primal.

New RPG shooter The Division was the best-selling game for March, while Far Cry: Primal, which released in February, was the second most popular.

Nintendo had a good month too, with a number three hit in the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD.

Here's the top ten, straight from the number nerds at the NPD Group.

  • Tom Clancy’s The Division (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • Far Cry: Primal (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (Wii U)
  • Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
  • UFC 2 (PS4, Xbox One)
  • MLB 16: The Show (PS4, PS3)
  • Pokken Tournament (Wii U)
  • NBA 2K16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PSe)
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
  • Minecraft (360, PS4, Xbox One, PS3)

"Tom Clancy’s The Division had the best launch month for any Tom Clancy title to-date, having sold 40 percent more than the next best-selling Tom Clancy title, March 2008’s Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 when adjusted for number of days sold within the month," said the NPD's Liam Callahan, according to VentureBeat.

This time last year saw the release of PS4 exclusive Bloodborne and EA's Battlefield: Hardline, but software sales in the US for March 2016 were still up 8 percent in comparison, from $395.4 million to $425.8 million.

Hardware sales hit $253.2 million in March 2016, down 19 percent from $311.1 million, primarily due to the lower price of home consoles, but accessories were up 9 percent to $285.1 million.
