Terraria: Otherworld will have tower defence elements - new trailer

Terraria: Otherworld developer Re-Logic Games has a ton of new details to share after GDC 2015.

Terraria: Otherworld is set in an alternate timeline of the Terraria universe. As previously reported it will have RPG and strategy elements on top of the core sandbox game.

Expanding on this on the game's forums, Re-Logic confirmed there will be a core story line, but players will have freedom rather than a strict questline. Non-playable characters will have their own stories and personalities, but the storyline will be composed of elements randomly selected and rearranged with each playthrough.

To progress through the story, players will need to find, craft and activate Purifying Towers to push back Corruption. These towers attract enemies, unfortunately, so players can set up customisable Wartowers to protect them, in a tower defence style affair.

Skill trees will give players more control over their progress than the random number generator of the core Terraria experience. For example, skills and even individual items will improve over time with use.

Re-Logic said the game is currently only in development for Mac and PC, but that it is considering self-publishing on PS4 and Xbox One. Mobile is not off the table, but not on the radar yet, either.

Otherworld will have a full game launch rather than an early access release. Re-Logic intends to hold off on developing post-launch content and features until the dust has settled on the original complete game. No release date is available, although the team hopes to have the game ready before the end of 2015.
