Terraria: How to get a Cat License

You can pat the cat in Terraria, but you'll need a license to do so.

Cats are the best animals in the whole world and it's no different in Terraria. Before you can get yourself an adorable pet, you'll need to have the Zoologist in your town, and you can check out our guide on where to find Terraria's NPCs here.

It's relatively easy to get a cat that will stay in your town forever, so here's how to do it.

Terraria: How to get a Cat License

Once the Zoologist has moved in and you have 10% of your Bestiary complete, you can buy a Cat License. It'll cost about five gold and 25 silver, which will feel like a lot depending on what stage of the game you're at, but I promise it's worth it to get a new furry friend.

You'll need to wait a day before your kitty arrives and if you approach it, you'll be able to pet it, which is very wholesome and good. Kitty will also bring you presents now and then, as a little treat. Unfortunately, you can only have one cat license per world, so you won't be able to horde them and make a cat island, which I agree is very disappointing.

Once your cat arrives, it'll head to your house and wait for you, so hurry up and visit them.

The cat can be all different colours and comes with a name, such as Caramel the red boy. You can also move the cat to another house if you so wish. For a visual guide, check out this video from BironGaming.
