System Shock gets its first fan-made campaign, 24 years later

The original System Shock has finally produced its first mod campaign, which you can download now.

System Shock was a critically-acclaimed game that inspired multiple franchises, but it never developed the third-party mod community of games like Doom. 24 years later, that's finally changed with System Shock: Rewired, the game's first fan-made campaign.

Rewired is set aboard a medical ship - the UNN Bismarck - which has been commandeered by SHODAN. While smaller than the original Citadel Station, the campaign includes three levels with branching paths, 4 cyberspace sections, puzzles, text-only audiologs, and on-screen text options. New voice recordings for audiologs may be added at a later date. (Thanks Rock Paper Shotgun.)

Obviously, this mod is for an older game, and lacks the shiny polish of the upcoming System Shock remake. But it does seem to be a faithful homage fans of the original will love. What's more, the download filesize is only 250 kilobytes, which is practically unheard of in modern mod projects.

If you'd like to play Rewired, it can be downloaded today from Moddb. It appears to be compatible with the original System Shock release and the Enhanced Edition from Nightdive Studios. Good luck, insect.
