Supergiant: Warner “bought into” our “vision” of Bastion

Supergiant Games has said it picked Warner Bros. Interactive as Bastion's publisher because it had "bought into" what the developer had wanted to do with the game.

"Basically, to get on Xbox Live Arcade, you need a publisher. And that publisher can be Microsoft first-party or it can be a third-party publisher," producer Amir Kao told VG247 in a roundtable interview last week.

"So after we showed the game at PAX Prime, we had interest from all sorts of people from publishers of all kinds. But Warner Bros were the most excited about the game, and they had a ton of respect for what we had been able to do so far and for our independence.

"So we were looking for a distribution partner, we weren't looking for someone to fund our game, but we were looking for people who had bought into the vision [of the game]. So yeah, we went with them because they were the most thrilled about it. They have been amazing to work with so far."

Kao told us that there were other publishers interested in the game - "many more," was what he said on the phone to VG247 - but wouldn't confirm if Microsoft was one of them.

Bastion kicks off Summer of Arcade on Xbox Live tomorrow for 1200 MS points. We'll have a full feature on the game and more from the roundtable with Amir Kao and writer Greg Kasavin going live on the site tomorrow morning.
