Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP hits 350,000 sales

Indie effort Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP may be a niche title, but developer Capybara notes that in the context of the App Store, niches are enormous.

"Target a niche. Due to iOS scale, niches can be huge," president Nathan Vella said during a presentation at GDC 2012, as reported by Joystiq.

Vella said games don't need to target "everyone" to succeed.

"Everyone isn't a demographic," he said, noting that Sword & Sworcery lacks the hallmarks of other successful iOS games, having few "birds, no fruit [and] limited water".

The unusual adventure, which optionally auto-tweets progress, has managed 350,000 sales. Interestingly, only 10% of these sales were made at a discount, a ratio which is almost the reverse of what many indie developers experience.

The iPad version accounted for over 65% of all sales as well as 75% of all revenue.
