Super Mario Maker 2 gets new speedrun mode, playable Link in a free update

Super Mario Maker 2 is due for a big update this week.

On Thursday, December 5, a new Super Mario Maker 2 patch will be available to download that adds new, free content. Update 2.0.0 brings a speedrun mode, new course parts, enemies and Link from The Legend of Zelda.

Ninji Speedruns mode is a simple test of speed. Players will be able to take on specific Nintendo-designed courses to get the best time. As you play, you'll be able to see ghosts of other players running alongside you. Courses will be available as part of events, which run for a week.

The courses themselves, however, can be played at any time. Clearing courses gets you stamps, which can be redeemed for Mii costumers.

As for Link, you'll be able to use him only in the 8-bit Super Mario Bros pallet. To summon him, you'll need the new Master Sword item. When playing as Link, you'll be able to shoot arrows, use the sword and drop bombs.

Alongside those, 2.0.0 update is also adding new course parts and enemies for use in Super Mario Maker 2's different styles. These are the Dash Block, Frozen Coin, P Block, Spike, and Pokey.
