Subnautica Below Zero launches for consoles and PC in May

Subnautica Below Zero, the sequel to the modern classic underwater exploration game, finally has a release date for both consoles and PC.

Subnautica Below Zero acts as a standalone expansion to the original game, and has been in early access for over two years now. After all that time in development on PC, the game is finally ready to make the leap onto consoles.

Developer Unknown Worlds is eager to launch the new title on multiple platforms at once, eschewing the staggered release date the original game in the series received. It arrives on May 14 for Switch, PS4/5, Xbox One/Series S|X, and PC (via Steam/EGS).

"From the award-winning studio, Unknown Worlds Entertainment presents the return to the world of 4546B with Subnautica: Below Zero," reads a press release. "Set one year after the original Subnautica, Below Zero challenges you to survive the icy biomes both above and below the surface. Craft tools scavenge for supplies and unravel the next chapter in the Subnautica story."

Here's a list of features you can expect from the final release, courtesy of Bandai Namco:

  • Survival is Key – Gather valuable materials, craft tools, manage your hunger and thirst, all while evading the dangerous wildlife that sees you as its next meal
  • The Mysteries Submerged – You came here in search of answers. You risked everything to get here
  • Exploration – Delve into unique aquatic and terrain biomes that will unlock not only materials, but the answers that you seek
  • Build your Habitat – Crafting and building the comforts of home here. These bases will be integral for your survival from not only the wildlife, but also the harsh environment around you.

The original Subnautica is an open-world adventure game and was released on PC in early 2018.
