Study - 80% of US kids own a console, more than half a handheld

The Pew Research Center has conducted a survey using US participants and found that 80 percent of kids between the ages of 12 and 17 own a gaming console.

Conducted by telephone interviews with 800 teens participating from June to September 2009, Per found that over half of those in the age group also own a handheld.

Part of the Internet & American Life Project, the poll found that 89 percent of young males own or have access to a console, compared to females at 70 percent (via Kotaku).

DS and PSP saw a greater base among younger demographics with 66 percent of kids aged 12 and 13 owning a handheld compared to 44 percent aged 14 -17.

The study concluded that handheld ownership was almost the same between the different sexes, with 56 percent ownership with males, and 47 percent with females.

Also mentioned in the report were statistics on adult online usage, with a large focus on social sites like MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Huge stats on those, actually.

World's getting smaller, ya know.
