Street Fighter 5 gets Final Fight's Abigail, Tekken 7 gets Fatal Fury's Geese, you get somewhat confused

Street Fighter 5 and Tekken 7 are both getting DLC characters from old beat-'em-ups.

EVO 2017 has produced a stack of news of interest to fighter fans, including two confusingly similar announcements for Street Fighter 5 and Tekken 7.

Starting with Street Fighter 5, the next DLC character will be Abigail from Final Fight (Capcom's Double Dragon knock-off). The whopping great lad joins his pal Hugo, a fellow Mad Gear gang member who has been part of the Street Fighter Universe since Second Impact.

Releasing for season pass holders on July 25 alongside the Metro City Bar arena, Abigail will be the fourth of six planned DLC characters for Street Fighter 5 Season 2, and as you can see in the trailer below, he's just huge.

Moving on to Tekken 7 now, Bandai Namco has announced the next add-on character will be Geese Howard, the primary antagonist from Fatal Fury (SNK's Double Dragon knock off).

Geese is only the second guest character announced for Tekken 7 so far, but what makes him even more surprising is his origin in an SNK character. SNK and Capcom have been playing ball for years now, but this is the first time Bandai Namco has teamed up with its rival. It's nice to see yet more evidence of the big fighting developers working together, hopefully for the good of the genre in general.

It seems too much of a coincidence that Bandai Namco and Capcom would both independently decide to release beat-'em-up guest characters for their flagship fighters and announce them at EVO 2017. Yoshinori Ono and Katsuhiro Harada's friendship is surely responsible. Now if only the pair of them would get a move on with Tekken x Street Fighter...
