Steam's new store page boosts discovery and personalisation options

Valve is making a lot of changes to the front page of Steam. The new store aims to make things more personal by allowing the you to see only things you want to see.

steam discovery update

A detailed update on the Steam page explains that 1,300 new titles have been added to Steam in the last nine months, realising this can be a bit overwhelming, Valve set out to make things you're actually interested in more visible.

The new store update features multiple new improvements, so we'll be breaking them down for easier reading.

The new home page

The home page is now tile-based, with each of them sorting multiple filtering options, while automatically filtering out titles you already own. Filtering options include things like removing or adding software releases, Early Access releases, or pre-purchases. The old tabs are all there, from 'New on Steam' and 'Recently Updated', to 'Weeklong Deals'.

The Discovery Queue

This new area of the front page is aimed at surfacing new, top-selling releases that Steam is recommending for you. The queue changes daily and you can browse all the suggested games and either follow any of them, add to your wishlist, purchase, or indicate your disinterest. You also get to skip to the next game in the queue if you aren't sure what to do.

Steam Curators

Steam Curators is Valve's way of incorporating publications and YouTube personalties into the store. The new feature allows you to follow anyone listed as a curator, and their picks would show up on your activity feed, and you can rate those picks as well. Anyone can become a curator by making enough recommendations via a Steam community group.

The Recommendation Feed

At the bottom of the page you'll find an endless scrolling list of titles recommended for you, showcasing a variety of tastes and genres, all based on games you've played. The feed will also show you well-reviewed titles that you might not have heard of otherwise, all of which can be added to your wishlist or be bought.

In addition to the above improvements, Valve is updating the search functionality to make it smarter in how it auto-completes. Filters are also added to the landing page of a search, should you not find what you're looking for from the home page.
