State of Decay 2 Influence Points Guide

Influence is going to govern a lot of your actions in State of Decay 2, and it’s through this currency that you’ll be permitted be build new features for your home base, and claim new outposts around any one of the three maps. But first you’ll need to know how to get earning Influence as quickly as possible.

  • Take control of any character, and head to a lookout tower.
  • Scan around for all the new buildings, and then bring up your map screen.
  • Hover over any building to see the list of potential resources it offers.
  • You want to target buildings with either multiple resources, or those that offer resources that your base camp is short on.
  • Raid your chosen building as quickly as possible, taking care to pick up every item possible.
  • Head back to the base camp, and deposit the new items in the Supply Locker.
  • You'll always earn Influence for providing resources for your community.

Other than that, always keep a lookout for Plague Hearts and Infestation points on the map. If you can clear these out quickly and effectively, you’re always guaranteed to bag yourself a solid amount of Influence in the process.

What to Spend Influence on in State of Decay 2

Now that you know how to earn Influence quickly in State of Decay 2, you’ll need to know how best to spend it. One of the primary uses of Influence is to purchases Outposts around the map, which can then become a sort of supply chain of resources for your main home base.

If you go back to the map screen of State of Decay 2 and hover over a building that you’ve completely cleared out, you’ll see an ‘Outpost Effect’s section. This lets you know the benefits of claiming this building as an Outpost for your survivors, and the benefits can include a steady claim of resources such as food and building materials, a permanent safe area for your character, and a Supply Locker for you to deposit items.

It’s up to you to judge which buildings you should prioritize as purchasing for Outposts over the others. We’d always recommend purchasing Outposts that offer a Morale bonus for your survivors, as well as any that offer resources like Food. Each building varies in Influence cost however, so you might find yourself having to save upwards of 300 Influence to purchase the more valuable buildings as Outposts.

This brings us to the end of our State of Decay 2 guide on how to earn and spend Influence, but continue ahead to our additional guides on the game, including our State of Decay 2 Blood Plague guide, or our full State of Decay 2 vehicles guide.
