Drop Zone is Star Wars Battlefront's answer to king of the hill

Star Wars Battlefront players can battle it out for control of supply drops in the newly-detailed Drop Zone mode.

Battlefront has a bunch of different modes, many of which seem to present twists and tweaks on established multiplayer formulae.

The latest to be detailed is Drop Zone, an 8v8 mode which DICE describes as a king of the hill-style experience.

Players fight for Rebel or Empire control of pods that drop from orbit, and win either by capturing five pods or by holding the majority of them when the match timer ends. If a stalemate occurs, a new pod will be added to the field, diverting the action.

Once claimed, pods will begin opening, and if held long enough will provide Power Pickups - but if a pod opens, another will drop.

Lead level designer Dennis Brännvall said players will need to balance defending the pods in groups with the risk of providing perfect targets for explosives.

"We’re promoting the idea of a fast, action-packed game where you need to be mobile and think on your feet. Camping doesn't really pay off," he wrote in a new EA blog post.

Star Wars Battlefront hits PC, PS4 and Xbox One on November 17 in North America and November 20 in Europe.
