Star Ruler developer drops Impulse after GameStop sale

The development team behind the indie space strategy game Star Ruler has announced on its web site that it will soon pull the game from being sold through Impulse. The reason? GameStop's recent acquisition of the service.

In a post on the game's official web site, a rep from Blind Mind Studios said the decision comes down to "GameStop's long, negative behavior toward the PC platform and independent games".

"We would never have signed onto distribution through GameStop, and being forced into this situation has only made it worse for us," it continues.

"We feel GameStop cannot serve as the leader of a true competitor in the digital distribution market."

GameStop announced the acquisition of the Impulse service from Stardock last week and it is officially scheduled to be completed in May. Blind Mind said on its site that it had good relations with Stardock before the sale of Impulse was announced.

However, it added, "... with the announcement of the merger, and due to the nature of our contract, we had to decide rather quickly what we would do."

Blind Mind confirmed that people who have already purchased Star Ruler on Impulse should still be able to get automatic updates for the game via the service.
