Stacking announced as new Double Fine Game

Double Fine's latest game has been announced. It's called Stacking, and it's a "third-person adventure puzzle game, set in a diorama open-world environment against a 1930's era backdrop".

It is similar to those Russian stacking dolls, and stars the world's smallest of said dolls, Charlie Blackmore.

The main premise of the game is stacking, as the name states, and there will be various dolls in the game with unique abilities for Charlie to jump into and acquire new skills. You can keep throwing dolls into each other, but the only skill accessible will be from the outer most doll - which gives you plenty of reasons to stack and re-stack.

IGN reports there are many ways to get through a puzzle using the dolls, and uses a guard as an example, where the player could use a "pretty doll" to distract the guard or possibly use another to sneak past him.

It sounds rather interesting to say the least, and it's expected to hit Xbox Live Arcade and PSN in spring 2011.
